The Positives of Accepting Change

For many of us, change is a word that immediately makes us feel uncomfortable. It is a word that kind of terrifies us because we are not necessarily sure what is about to come our way, and for the planner in us all, this makes us scared and worried. But then there are those people who love change along with the uncertainty that life will bring. These people are able to embrace every opportunity given to them no matter where it will take them in life, and will use the opportunity to its full advantage. Change can be frightening at times, but learning to let go a little will not only open your eyes more to what life has to offer you, but will allow you to continuously grow as a person.

Let’s look at some aspects in our life where change is abundant and/or necessary. The first of which would be your job. Your job is the thing that you do daily and that ultimately absorbs most of your time. Now, you know in your mind that your current job is not making you happy, but instead it seems to bring you down to the point where you’re unhappy or depressed. You convince yourself that you have to do this particular job in order to meet the financial needs that you, as well as your family, may need in order to sustain the life that you are currently living. But what if I told you that by opening your mind to change and allowing yourself to be, in a sense, more free-spirited, that you could find the courage to quit this job and hunt for something that will bring you back to happiness. Sure, you’ve thought of this several times, or everyday that you go into the office, but have you actually taken initiative? Why allow yourself to be anything but happy in every aspect of your life. What you do for a living ultimately not only defines you in a sense as a person, but it also takes up the majority of your time. Time is precious, so don’t allow yourself to be miserable in order to make money, there are other jobs and other ways, you just have to open your mind to change and allow yourself to take that first step.

Another area where I notice people struggle with accepting and allowing change is with friendships and relationships. The fear of letting go of someone, even though you know they are toxic to you in one way or another is frightening, I get it, but it is even more scary to allow these people to remain in your life. To allow someone else to consistently pull you down in the sneaky ways they you and to limit you from your dreams. Saying goodbye to someone is never easy, and I’m not telling you that it will be, but it is necessary. This is a change for the good! You need to surround yourself with those who have similar goals as you do, who does what it take to reach the next milestone in life. Not your so called ‘friends’ from high school who still lives at home with mom and dad and working the same job they have had since they were in school, no dreams, no ambitions, no goals, and going nowhere. Sure you have fun and enjoy spending time with these people, I’m not trying to rob you of your fun and entertainment, but I am trying to help guide you towards success for yourself. To know when it is time to step away from the people who bring you down, and to find individuals who help you grow, spiritually and mentally. You only live one life, surround yourself with those who make you happy, but also who make you a better person.

In life in general change is abundant. Even from when you were a child, change was a usual thing that you experienced, even in the minutest ways they happened every single day of your life. Yes, big changes require preparation, but if you’re open then this will be easy. By gaining a mindset that allows you to adapt in any situation that you may find yourself in. Don’t overthink things to the point of looking back or to the point of being too terrified to take the next step forward. Change is great! Change is necessary! And most importantly, change is full of growth for both your mind and your body! Next time you find yourself struggling with accepting change of any sort, take a deep breath and tell yourself that everything happens for a reason, and that things can only get better from here!

For those who do struggle with change, what part of ‘change’ frightens you the most? I would love to hear from you, and to help you overcome your fear!

  1. Absolutely great blog post!
Change is something that is constant and inevitable – its about knowing when to let change in!
Once people understand that they only have control over their own actions and not over others – change becomes easier to embrace, because its on your terms!
We should always be striving for a better life, and in turn, a better version of ourselves!
I think you shed some great light on this topic, thank you for sharing!
